In this round the ladies won again by default as the University of Glasgow's woman's team forfeited the match. Despite this disappointment, our ladies team maintain their position at the top of the league.

The men's team were up against both Heriot-Watt and the University of Glasgow. Despite a defeat by the Heriot-Watt lads, our men's team took away the valuable experience of competing against internationally qualified fighters. Our men's team also celebrated a well deserved win 4-1 against Glasgow.

As always well done to all who competed, and congratulations to all the winners.

05/11/05 Inter-University League Match Results more

This weekend the University Shotokan Karate Club celebrated a successful start to this year’s competitions.

On Saturday 5th the inter-university league got off to a terrific start, the ladies team won their two matches of the day against the University of Dundee and Edinburgh’s own Shukokai, in a particularly well matched fight. The men’s team won against Dundee but conceded to Edinburgh’s Shukokai team. This is not only a promising start for Shotokan but suggests that, together with Shukokai, we will be as strong as ever in the upcoming BUSA championships.

The club’s performance at the Wishaw Grand Prix on Sunday 6th saw the club return with many medals. The final of the female junior Kumite was fought out by two of our own student members. Ashley Pheely took gold and Zara Phang an extremely well deserved silver. In the male junior Kumite Ahmed Salem reached the final but could not fight due to injury and was awarded silver. In the male senior Kumite Scott Hedley earned a bronze, and one of our long standing non-student members, Caroline Murphy took bronze in the ladies senior competition.

Well done to all those who competed!
